Daisy UK

Dave Kelly may be blind but he never lets that get in the way of his ambitions.

Neither did Blue Orchid, whom he called upon to help him establish a social enterprise that would raise awareness of other people's abilities and disabilities through sport, education and employment.

The result was Daisy UK, which helps young disabled people along their journey into adulthood through courses, projects and inclusive activities with their non-disabled peers.

Together Dave hopes that both students will learn something from the other which promotes social inclusion. Today - more than three years after founding the business and developing a website to promote its work - he is making a huge difference.

Dave and his team have created the Daisy chain in which each link can deliver a pathway through transition and help young people reach their true potential.

He runs visual and disability awareness courses for children, staff and volunteers who work in schools, colleges and other organisations to help raise awareness of the problems for those with disabilities and promote inclusion.

He is also keen to create inclusive sports and activity clubs for young people with a disability.

One person, who attended one of the courses, said afterwards: "The practical was most interesting because I got a better idea of what it would be like not being able to see."

In October last year, Daisy UK and Everton FC announced plans to form a blind and partially-sighted football team.
